The idea for the State Flower Collection came from a quote the artist read when traveling through the beautifully flowered highways in East Texas near Austin. The quote is by Lady Bird Johnson which reads, “Where flowers bloom so does hope.”
The quote was the starting point for the collection. As First Lady, Lady Bird started a beautification project to improve conditions in Washington D.C. by planting millions of flowers. She also was instrumental in promoting the Highway Beautification Act, which sought to beautify the nation’s highway system. What a neat lady!
